Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Firefly today launched a limited-edition special version of its first model, the Firefly EV, enhancing the playability of the compact hatchback.
This special edition, dubbed the "Nomadic Maillard," has a starting price of RMB 133,800 ($18,710) including the battery pack, with only 333 units available. Orders placed today will be delivered immediately, Firefly announced.
It is priced RMB 14,000, or 11.69 percent, higher than the base model of the Firefly EV.
Under the BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery rental plan, the starting price for the special edition variant is RMB 93,800, with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399.
The two previously available variants of the Firefly EV had starting prices of RMB 119,800 and RMB 125,800, including the battery pack. Under the BaaS scheme, their prices are RMB 79,800 and RMB 85,800, respectively, with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399 per month.
The new special edition features a low-saturation color scheme, along with exclusive decals and wheel designs.
Firefly launched the Firefly EV on April 19, which is currently its only model available for sale. Deliveries in China began on April 29.
On August 14, Firefly began deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands, marking the official entry of the Nio sub-brand into overseas markets.
Last week, a local media report said that Firefly will launch a special edition Firefly EV in China, based on the European version of the compact hatchback, as its production capacity significantly increases.
The launch timing for the new version is likely to coincide with Nio Day 2025 in September, when the third-generation Nio ES8 is officially launched, according to the report by local media outlet AutoPix on August 22.
