Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has shared more official images of the third-generation ES8, with the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) set to make its debut in a few hours.
The company shared images of the SUV's exterior and interior on Weibo today, revealing more details, including an in-car refrigerator, seat configurations, and trunk storage space.
The new ES8 will make its debut later today, with an event starting at 7:30 pm Beijing Time in Chengdu, Sichuan, focusing on the vehicle's technical and product highlights.
The official launch of the model will take place at Nio Day 2025 next month, with the exact date yet to be announced.
The third-generation ES8 is equipped with three LiDARs, including a main LiDAR on the roof with a detection range of up to 500 meters, and two 120-degree wide-angle LiDARs on the sides of the vehicle.
The new-generation ES8 is equipped with the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive system as Nio's flagship sedan, the ET9, delivering a peak power output of 520 kW (707 horsepower) and a peak torque of 700 Nm.
It comes standard with a 100-kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 635 kilometers.
Nio reduced the cost of the optional 100-kWh long-range battery pack by RMB 20,000 ($2,780) on August 19, resulting in price reductions for all long-range versions of the models currently on sale.
The ES8 was not included at the time because its next-generation model was imminent. This means that the new-generation ES8 will be cheaper than its predecessor equipped with a 100-kWh battery pack.
The previously available ES8 came standard with a 75-kWh standard-range battery pack, with a starting price of RMB 498,000.
The third-generation Nio ES8 entered a regulatory filing catalog of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in June, showing it has larger dimensions than its predecessor.
The SUV, available in six-seat and seven-seat configurations, measures 5,280 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm.
Its predecessor measured 5,099 mm in length, 1,989 mm in width, and 1,750 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm.
The ES8 is Nio's first mass-produced model, with the first generation based on the NT 1.0 platform launched on December 16, 2017, at Nio Day 2017, making it one of the earliest premium vehicles from a Chinese domestic automaker.
The second-generation ES8 was launched at Nio Day 2022 on December 24, 2022, transitioning to the NT 2.0 platform.
