Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) offered a variant with scissor doors on its previous P7 electric sedan, and this option will remain available on the next-generation P7.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today on Weibo that the next-generation P7 will have a variant with scissor doors and shared several images.

The variant will also have a special matte silver finish and exclusive features, bringing a more pure and extreme luxury sports experience, Xpeng said.

The first-generation P7 debuted at the Shanghai auto show in April 2019 and was officially launched in April 2020. Deliveries began in the middle of 2020.

Xpeng launched the P7 Wing Edition at the Guangzhou auto show in November 2020, calling it the P7 flagship variant designed for enthusiasts.

Compared with the regular P7, the P7 Wing Edition mainly features scissor doors in the front, which open in a more stylish manner.

To date, the P7 is the only Xpeng model to feature scissor doors.

Xpeng unveiled the new P7 and began pre-sales of the electric sedan on August 6.

The company did not disclose the pre-sales price, saying that it aims to officially launch the model later this month, at which point the prices will be available.

The company previously said that the new-generation P7 is targeting prices around RMB 300,000 ($41,840).

However, the starting price of the new P7 will clearly not exceed RMB 300,000, considering that Xpeng's other mid-to-large-sized electric sedan, the P7+, has a starting price range of RMB 186,800 to RMB 208,800.

The new P7 comes standard with three Xpeng-developed Turing AI driving chips with an effective computing power of 2,250 TOPS, making it the EV model with the highest smart driving computing power to date.

The electric sedan is expected to help Xpeng enhance its brand appeal. Currently, its best-selling model is the lower-priced Mona M03.

The Mona M03 delivered 15,758 units in July, marking the 11th consecutive month of deliveries exceeding 10,000 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The electric sedan accounted for 42.92 percent of Xpeng's July deliveries of 36,717 units, up from 40.77 percent in June.
