- The starting price for the new MG4 is 47.21 percent lower than its predecessor's starting price of RMB 139,800.

MG Motor, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor, has started pre-sales of the redesigned MG4 compact hatchback in China, becoming another competitively priced affordable model in the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) market.
The all-new MG4 is available for pre-order starting at RMB 73,800 ($10,270), a 47.21 percent reduction from the starting price of RMB 139,800 for its predecessor.
The model will offer a variant with semi-solid-state batteries, with pricing to be announced in September and mass production set to begin later this year.
Specifically, the new MG4 is currently available in four variants during pre-sales, with starting prices of RMB 73,800, RMB 81,800, RMB 90,800, and RMB 105,800.
Their prices are expected to be further reduced upon official launch.
The three lower-priced variants are equipped with a 42.8-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 437 kilometers. The highest-priced variant features a 53.9-kWh LFP battery pack, with a CLTC range of 530 kilometers.
The new MG4 is built on SAIC's E3 pure electric architecture, with a length, width, and height of 4,395 mm, 1,842 mm, and 1,551 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.
It is powered by a single motor with a peak power of 120 kW and a peak torque of 250 Nm, supporting a top speed of 160 km/h.
MG4 was initially named MG Mulan in China. It is a compact EV launched by MG in September 2022 and is also an EV for the global market.
At the same time as its launch in China, it was introduced to overseas markets under the name MG4 Electric, and was subsequently renamed MG4 EV in China.
As a compact electric hatchback, the new MG4 is expected to compete with Volkswagen's ID.3, BYD Dolphin, and the Firefly EV from Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Firefly.
MG has focused its efforts on overseas markets in recent years, with limited new product launches in China.
In June, MG announced its all in new energy vehicle (NEV) strategy, planning to launch 13 NEV models in China over the next two years, covering pure electric, hybrid, and extended-range powertrain systems.
