BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) saw its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in July remain largely flat from the same period last year, as plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales continued to decline.
The company sold 344,296 vehicles in July, up 0.56 percent year-on-year while down 10.01 percent from June, according to data released today.
BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered solely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, shifting its focus to the production of PHEVs and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
BYD's NEVs include passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, with passenger NEVs accounting for 341,030 units sold in July, up 0.07 percent year-on-year but down 9.69 percent from June.
BYD's commercial NEVs sold 3,266 units in July, up 106.19 percent year-on-year but down 34.11 percent from June.
Among passenger NEVs in July, BEVs sold 177,887 units, up 36.84 percent year-on-year, but down 14.02 percent from June.
This marks the first sequential decline in BYD's passenger BEV sales since February.
BYD sold 163,143 passenger PHEVs in July, down 22.61 percent year-on-year and down 4.45 percent from June.
This marks the fourth consecutive month of sequential decline in BYD's passenger PHEV sales, as well as the fourth consecutive month of sales below BEV sales.
The company sold 80,737 NEVs overseas in July, up 169.00 percent year-on-year, but down 10.34 percent from June.
In addition to being China's largest NEV manufacturer, BYD is also China's second-largest power battery manufacturer.
BYD's power battery and energy storage battery installations in July were about 22.350 GWh, up 35.30 percent year-on-year, but down 17.28 percent from June.
Performance in January-July
In January-July, BYD sold 2,490,250 NEVs, up 27.35 percent year-on-year.
Its passenger NEVs sold 2,454,301 units in January-July, up 25.99 percent year-on-year.
Commercial NEVs sold 35,949 units in January-July, up 384.36 percent year-on-year.
BYD's passenger BEV sales in January-July reached 1,201,268 units, up 40.31 percent year-on-year.
Passenger PHEVs sold 1,253,033 units in January-July, up 14.77 percent year-on-year.
BYD's overseas NEV sales in January-July were 545,003 units, up 133.49 percent year-on-year.
BYD's battery and energy storage battery installations in January-July were about 156.876 GWh, up 76.12 percent year-on-year.
