Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has reached the milestone of producing its 800,000th mass-produced vehicle, stating that it will accelerate efforts to achieve the 1 millionth vehicle milestone.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker's 800,000th vehicle is an L90 SUV (sport utility vehicle) from its sub-brand Onvo, which rolled off the assembly line today at Nio's F1 factory in Hefei, Anhui province, according to a statement.
The L90 will be officially launched on July 31, with deliveries set to begin the following day on August 1, Onvo said, reiterating previously announced plans.
The 800,000th vehicle marks a new starting point, and Nio will continue to invest in technological innovation and accelerate efforts to achieve the 1 million vehicle milestone, said William Li, the company's founder, chairman, and CEO.
Nio, headquartered in Shanghai, has two factories in Hefei: F1 and the F2 factory in NeoPark.
Nio's third factory, or F3, will officially start production in NeoPark in September, Li said earlier this month.
Currently, Onvo and Nio share the F1 factory, which has the country's first lightweight car body manufacturing platform that supports mixed production of all-aluminum and ultra-high-strength steel-aluminum car bodies, Onvo said today.
The factory has reached world-leading levels in terms of intelligence, flexible processes, advanced equipment, efficient industrial chains, and low-carbon sustainability, Onvo said.
These technologies include 9,800-ton one-piece die-cast rear floor technology, according to Onvo's statement.
The L90 production line also uses Nio's new AI self-inspection system called Tiantan, which can automatically detect more than 1,000 vehicle functions in three minutes, greatly speeding up the SUV's quality inspection process, according to Onvo.
Onvo began pre-sales of the L90 electric SUV on July 10, with a starting price of RMB 279,900 ($39,040) including an 85-kWh battery pack. Under the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental plan, the pre-sales starting price is RMB 193,900.
Notably, the L90's price is expected to decrease further upon its official launch, a common strategy in China's EV industry.
Test drives for the L90 began yesterday, with nearly 600 vehicles available across Onvo's over 400 showrooms, covering 140 Chinese cities.
