Geely Galaxy has rolled out the updated E5 electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), offering a lower starting price and longer range.
The Geely Auto (HKG: 0175) sub-brand officially launched the E5 at an event today, with a starting price of RMB 109,800 ($15,340), a reduction of RMB 3,000, or 2.66 percent, from the previous model's RMB 112,800.
The compact SUV continues to offer two range options: 530 kilometers and 610 kilometers, an improvement over its predecessor's 440 kilometers and 530 kilometers.
Specifically, the updated E5, or 2026 E5, offers five variants with starting prices of RMB 109,800, RMB 119,800, RMB 125,800, RMB 135,800, and RMB 145,800.
The two lower-priced variants are equipped with a 60.22-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC range of 530 kilometers. The other three variants are equipped with a 68.39-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC range of 610 kilometers.
The E5 was initially launched on August 3, 2024, also with five variants, priced at RMB 112,800, RMB 122,800, RMB 128,800, RMB 138,800, and RMB 148,800 respectively.
The two lower-priced variants of the older E5 are equipped with a 49.52-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC range of 440-kilometers. The other three variants have a battery pack capacity of 60.22 kWh and a CLTC range of 530 kilometers.
The compact SUV is aimed at the global market and is available in right-hand drive variants in addition to left-hand drive models available in China.
The E5 has been renamed EX5 for overseas markets, and Geely Galaxy announced today that the model has become the best-selling A-class pure electric SUV exported from China in 35 countries.
The updated E5 has a length, width, and height of 4,615 mm, 1,901 mm, and 1,670 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the same as its predecessor.
Its five variants share the same powertrain as its predecessor. The electric motor delivers a peak power of 160 kW and a peak torque of 320 Nm, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
One of the Geely Galaxy E5's main competitors is the BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Yuan Plus, known as the Atto 3 in overseas markets.
The BYD Yuan Plus currently has a starting price of RMB 115,800 to RMB 145,800, with CLTC range options of 430 kilometers and 510 kilometers.
Geely Galaxy was originally a new product lineup officially launched on February 23, 2023. On March 3 this year, Geely announced that Geely Galaxy was upgraded to a new brand.
The sub-brand has seen significant sales growth over the past year, rapidly increasing Geely's share of the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
Geely sold 1,409,180 vehicles in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 47.45 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Geely Galaxy sold 548,408 vehicles in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 232.00 percent.
