BYD launches Seagull, its cheapest model, in Indonesia

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Seagull in Indonesia, locally renamed Atto 1, bringing its most affordable model to another international market.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced the launch of the right-hand drive version of the Seagull in Indonesia at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International auto show (GIIAS 2025) yesterday, according to a statement today.

The Seagull is available in two variants in Indonesia: the standard-range Dynamic and the long-range Premium, priced at 1.95 billion Indonesian rupiah ($11,970) and 2.35 billion Indonesian rupiah, respectively.

The Dynamic variant is equipped with a 30.08-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a range of 300 kilometers.

The Premium variant is equipped with a larger 38.88-kWh battery pack, offering a range of 380 kilometers.

With its modern design language, energy-efficient technology, and features tailored to everyday use, the BYD Seagull will be an ideal choice for Indonesian consumers, the company said.

Currently, the BYD Seagull is available in four variants in China, with starting prices of RMB 69,800 ($9,750), RMB 78,800, RMB 78,800, and RMB 85,800.

The Seagull is BYD's sixth model in Indonesia, joining the Seal, Atto 3, Dolphin, M6, and Sealion 7. The Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus in China, while the Sealion 7 is called the Sealion 07.

At the GIIAS 2025 event, BYD also showcased the D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and Z9 sedan from its premium brand Denza, as well as the luxury brand Yangwang's U9 electric supercar.

BYD Group sold 382,585 NEVs in June, up 11.98 percent year-on-year and 0.03 percent month-on-month, according to data released on July 1.

BYD sold 90,049 vehicles overseas in June, marking a record high for the seventh consecutive month. This represents a year-on-year increase of 233.58 percent and a month-on-month increase of 1.13 percent.

The company sold 3,847 vehicles in Indonesia in June, up 141 percent year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the first half of the year, BYD sold 19,825 vehicles in Indonesia, up 1,142 percent year-on-year.

The first model produced at BYD's passenger car plant in Brazil is the Seagull, which has been renamed the Dolphin Mini locally.
