BYD launches Sealion 6 DM-i hybrid SUV in Singapore

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Sealion 6 DM-i in Singapore, marking its first hybrid model in the country.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker rolled out the Sealion 6 DM-i at a recent event in Singapore, according to a statement yesterday. The model is known as the Song Plus DM-i in China.

BYD is expanding its market reach by introducing a solution that addresses a broader range of driving needs, it said.

The Sealion 6 DM-i in Singapore has a starting price of S$212,888 ($166,140) including the Guaranteed COE (Certificate of Entitlement).

BYD launched the 2025 Song Plus DM-i in China on July 25, with a starting price of RMB 135,800 ($18,940).

Singapore is one of the most expensive regions in the world for vehicle ownership, primarily due to the COE, which grants residents the right to own and use vehicles in the city-state.

In addition to the Sealion 6 DM-i, BYD currently offers the Seal, Dolphin, Sealion 7, M6, and Atto 3, known in China as Yuan Plus, in Singapore. The D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) from BYD's sub-brand Denza is also available in Singapore.

BYD launched the Atto 3 in Singapore in July 2022, marking its entry into the local passenger vehicle market.

It sold 6,191 vehicles in Singapore in 2024, the highest in the city-state, according to data from the Singapore Land Transport Authority.

BYD Group sold 382,585 NEVs in June, up 11.98 percent year-on-year and 0.03 percent month-on-month, according to data released on July 1.

It sold 90,049 vehicles overseas in June, marking the seventh consecutive month of record-breaking sales. This represents a year-on-year increase of 233.58 percent and a month-on-month increase of 1.13 percent.
