Xpeng's (NYSE: XPEV) G6 SUV (sport utility vehicle) may be one of the first models to feature extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, as the electric vehicle (EV) maker aims to begin rolling out hybrid models by the end of the year.

A heavily camouflaged vehicle, apparently a G6, was spotted refueling at a gas station, according to spy photos shared today by local automotive media outlet Auto Home.

The vehicle's fuel filler cap is located on the driver's side of the rear, while the charging port is on the passenger side, the report notes.

Xpeng's first EREV model, internally codenamed G01, is set to launch later this year, the report says.

The G01 will be equipped with Xpeng's Kunpeng extended-range system, with an expected battery range of 430 kilometers, a combined range of up to 1,400 kilometers, and support for 800V fast charging, according to the report.

The EREV version of the G6 will be launched later, with the earliest possible launch date being in 2026, the report says.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) unveiled its Kunpeng Super Electric System at a tech event in November 2024, stating that vehicles equipped with the extended-range system would have a combined range of up to 1,400 kilometers and a battery range of up to 430 kilometers.

This will be the longest-range extended-range system in the industry, alleviating drivers' range anxiety, the company said at the time.

During an earnings call on March 18, Xpeng management said that the company planned to begin delivering multiple new models in the second half of this year, including battery electric vehicle (BEV) models and models equipped with the Kunpeng extended-range system.

Xpeng would offer both powertrain options in the majority of its upcoming models, significantly expanding its addressable market through its super hybrid products, the company said during the call.

Local media outlet 36kr reported on March 25 that Xpeng had planned at least five EREV models, including sedans and SUVs.

"It's a bit like the P7 and G6 will both have EREV variants," the report quoted a source as saying. The P7 is a sedan, and Xpeng will launch its next-generation model later this quarter.

Xpeng's first EREV model would be developed based on the X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and was expected to enter mass production in the second half of this year, according to the 36kr report.

The company's E, F, and H platforms would all have EREV models, which were scheduled to be launched in 2026 and 2027, the insider said.

In the second quarter, Xpeng delivered a record 103,181 vehicles, within its guidance range.
