Dongfeng Motor's premium electric off-road brand M-Hero has launched pre-sales for the M817 off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle), which is equipped with a wide range of Huawei technologies.

M-Hero announced at an event held yesterday that it has begun accepting pre-orders for the M817, marking the first fruit of its strategic partnership with Huawei.

M-Hero offers two options for the new model in pre-sales: Pro and Max, with pre-sales prices of RMB 329,900 ($45,950) and RMB 359,900, respectively.

The M817 is a hardcore off-road SUV with dimensions of 5,100 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and either 1,889 mm or 1,919 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,005 mm.

The five-seat model is equipped with a hybrid system comprising a 1.5-liter engine and electric motors. The system delivers a combined power output of 505 kW and a combined torque of 848 Nm.

With this system, the M817 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.

The M817 is equipped with a 31.7 kWh battery pack, offering a combined range of 1,300 km when fully fueled and charged.

The model is equipped with Huawei's latest ADS 4 driving assistance system and HarmonyOS cockpit.

M-Hero is a brand officially launched by Dongfeng on August 27, 2022, alongside two concept vehicles, the M-Terrain and M-Terrain S.

In August 2023, the first production model of M-Hero, the M-917, was launched in China, offering an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version and a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version.

Currently, the starting prices for these two versions in China are RMB 637,700 and RMB 697,700, respectively.

In February 2024, Huawei and M-Hero entered into a strategic partnership.

The two parties will collaborate to advance the commercialization of Huawei's intelligent automotive solutions, helping M-Hero become a leader in shaping China's luxury electric off-road vehicle culture, Huawei said at the time.
