Nio (NYSE: NIO) has officially announced the ET9 Horizon Edition with a two-tone paint finish, following the disclosure of this more premium design in a regulatory filing earlier today.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker shared several images of the new ET9 variant on Weibo, saying that it incorporates Nio's signature brand elements into the vehicle's design.
"The Horizon Edition is a special version of Nio's flagship model, conveying the vision of 'Blue Sky Coming' while offering a more sophisticated design and product experience," Nio wrote in a poster.
The ET9 Horizon Edition features a two-tone paint scheme combining blue and silver, along with exclusive wheel designs, according to the company.
Earlier today, a regulatory document on the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's website showed that Nio has filed to add a two-tone paint finish, new wheels, and a "Horizon" badge option to the ET9.
The ET9 was officially launched at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 788,000 ($107,220) including the battery.
The sedan initially offered 999 limited-edition cars, which have already sold out. Currently available versions include the standard model, starting at RMB 788,000, and a signature edition, starting at RMB 808,000.
After the ET9 began deliveries, many owners expressed a desire for greater personalization, with some already modifying their vehicles to great effect, Ted Li, Nio's product head, said on Weibo today.
To better meet users' needs for personalized design, Nio will roll out the ET9 Horizon Edition special edition model later this year, Li said.
Li provided a more detailed explanation of the two-tone paint design for the ET9 Horizon Edition:
- When selecting the two-tone design, we sought a unique yet elegant balance.
- Unlike traditional two-tone designs featuring light-colored upper and dark-colored lower sections with high contrast, we specifically chose a combination of blue and silver with similar hues.
- This allows the two-tone body to achieve a natural and harmonious transition, avoiding strong visual conflicts and conveying a refined and premium aesthetic.
- This is a new attempt to blend the most beautiful sky with two-tone design.
Nio will share more product information and design details about the ET9 Horizon Edition in the near future, Li said.
