BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has added the BYD Zhengzhou to its car carrier fleet after the cargo ship completed its sea trial at the end of last month.
The BYD Zhengzhou has been officially delivered, marking the seventh car carrier in BYD's fleet, the company said today.
The car carrier is named after Zhengzhou, Henan province, in central China, which is home to one of BYD's largest vehicle production bases.
The BYD Zhengzhou can carry 7,000 cars and underwent sea trials in late June.
The cargo ship was built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited and is a sister ship to the BYD Hefei.
The BYD Zhengzhou measures 199.9 meters in length, 38 meters in beam, and is powered by an LNG dual-fuel propulsion system.
The other six cargo ships in the BYD fleet are the BYD Explorer No. 1, BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, BYD Shenzhen, BYD Xi'an, and BYD Changsha.
Except for the BYD Explorer No. 1, the other BYD ships are named after the cities where its automobile production bases are located.
BYD's fleet has transported over 70,000 of the company's NEVs to destinations worldwide, the company announced on June 24.
As China's automotive exports continue to expand, the demand for specialized automotive transport ships is also growing, BYD said at the end of last month.
The company sold 382,585 NEVs in June, marking the highest figure so far this year.
BYD sold 90,049 vehicles overseas in June, marking the seventh consecutive month of record-breaking sales. This represents a year-on-year increase of 233.58 percent and a month-on-month increase of 1.13 percent.
