Headquartered in Suzhou, a neighboring city of Shanghai, Momenta was founded in 2016. One of its co-founders is Ren Shaqing, who joined Nio (NYSE: NIO) in August 2020 to lead smart driving research and development.

Momenta's business spans China and multiple international markets including Germany, Japan, and the US. It has received strategic investments from SAIC Motor Corp (SHA: 600104), General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Bosch, according to its website.

On June 6, 2024, domestic media outlet 36kr reported that Mercedes-Benz would adopt Momenta's smart driving solution.

The collaboration has not been confirmed, but information on Momenta's website indicates that Mercedes-Benz and Momenta are collaborating to introduce highly intelligent autonomous driving systems in several upcoming models.

In June 2024, GAC Toyota, Toyota's joint venture in China, announced a partnership with Momenta to co-develop an end-to-end, full-scenario smart driving solution.

A series of collaborations over the past few years have positioned Momenta as one of the key smart driving solution providers in the Chinese market, alongside Huawei.

For BMW, several senior executives from its headquarters visited China at the end of 2024 to experience local brands' assisted driving systems and realized that the previous approach of developing by the German teams could no longer keep pace with the development speed of Chinese brands, according to a report by 36Kr today.
