BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang has seen the first batch of U7 sedans for customer delivery roll off the production line, following the launch of the model at the end of March.
Yangwang announced the progress on Weibo today, stating that deliveries of the U7 will soon begin.
The brand officially launched the U7 on March 27 with a starting price of RMB 628,000 ($87,240), below the "RMB 1 million level" previously mentioned by Yangwang.
On May 27, the second batch of U7 vehicles for test drives arrived at its stores in 48 cities.
The Yangwang U7 offers battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options, with four-seat and five-seat versions available.
Its dimensions are 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm.
It is built on Yangwang's e4 technology, powered by four electric motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW, resulting in a total power output of 960 kW and a peak torque of 1,584 Nm.
This powertrain delivers 1,300 horsepower, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.
Another key feature of the model is the DiSus-Z, an advanced body control system designed to enhance comfort, which is the highest-tier variant of BYD's DiSus system.
The system enables the Yangwang U7 to offer ride comfort surpassing maglev technology and can easily handle rough terrain, according to BYD.
In addition to the U7, Yangwang currently offers the U8 off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle) starting at RMB 1.098 million and the U9 electric supercar starting at RMB 1.68 million.
Yangwang sold 135 vehicles in April, a year-on-year decrease of 85.82 percent, but a 1.50 percent increase from March, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The Yangwang U8 SUV sold 121 units in April, while the U9 electric supercar sold 14 units.
