BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Sealion 07 EV in Guatemala, bringing its electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model to yet another overseas market.
The model officially went on sale in Guatemala on May 22, according to a statement released by BYD today.
The Sealion 07 EV has been renamed the Sealion 7 in Guatemala, in line with BYD's approach in other overseas markets.
The launch of the model in Guatemala is expected to encourage more consumers to choose environmentally friendly and efficient new energy vehicles (NEVs), BYD said.
BYD launched its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology platform, e-Platform 3.0 Evo, in China on May 10, 2024, along with the first model based on this platform, the Sealion 07 EV.
The Sealion 07 is a competitor to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, with a starting price of RMB 189,800 ($26,360) in China.
To date, BYD has brought the Sealion 07 to multiple international markets, including Norway, Thailand, India, Mexico, and Hungary.
Guatemala is a Central American country located south of Mexico, with its capital in Guatemala City.
BYD entered Guatemala in November 2024, partnering with dealer Grupo Confiño to launch four models: the Han, Tang, Song Plus DM-i, and Seal.
Other models currently offered by the company in Guatemala include the Dolphin, Seagull, Yuan Plus, and Song Pro DM-i.
BYD is China's largest NEV manufacturer, with NEV sales of 1,380,893 units in January-April, representing a year-on-year increase of 46.98 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The company sold 285,170 NEVs overseas from January to April, up 105.29 percent year-on-year.
