Xiaomi founder says official launch of YU7 SUV expected in Jul

Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun said the official launch of the YU7 is expected in two months, with the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) set to make its debut in just a few hours.

The YU7 is expected to officially launch in July, Lei said on Weibo today.

At the pre-launch event later today, the YU7's official pricing won't be announced, nor will its pre-orders be open, he said.

Earlier today, Xiaomi's electric vehicle (EV) arm, Xiaomi EV, shared some new images on Weibo showing the YU7 in a titanium exterior color.

Yesterday, Xiaomi EV said that the YU7 is positioned as a luxury performance SUV.

Those who love to drive and want large space and an advanced luxury experience will especially love the YU7, Lei said yesterday.

Xiaomi EV yesterday shared a glimpse of the YU7's interior and unveiled the Xiaomi HyperVision, which it said is a more intuitive visual interaction system.

The YU7 is Xiaomi's second model after the SU7 sedan, and has the potential to reshape the electric SUV market in China. The market is currently led by the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.

The YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, according to its regulatory filing.

For comparison, the updated Model Y has a length, width and height of 4,797 mm, 1,920 mm, 1,624 mm and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

Xiaomi officially launched its first model, the SU7, on March 28, 2024, and the electric sedan is a Tesla Model 3 competitor with a starting price of RMB 215,900 ($29,970).

On February 27, Xiaomi officially launched the SU7 Ultra, the company's electric sedan with 1,548 Ps of maximum horsepower based on the regular SU7.

Xiaomi EV announced on May 1 that it delivered over 28,000 units in April, its seventh consecutive month seeing monthly deliveries exceeding 20,000 units.

Lei said in March that Xiaomi EV raised its full-year 2025 vehicle delivery target to 350,000 units from 300,000 units previously.
