China NEV retail at 484,000 in May 1-18, up 32% year-on-year

Retail sales of passenger new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China amounted to 484,000 units in May 1-18, up 32 percent from a year earlier and 15 percent from a month earlier, data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 3.808 million units, up 35 percent from the same period last year.

Wholesale sales of passenger NEVs from May 1-18 amounted to 467,000 units, up 23 percent from the same period last year and flat from the same period last month, according to the CPCA.

Cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs so far this year were 4,448,000 units, up 40 percent from a year earlier.

From May 1-18, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 932,000 units, up 12 percent compared with the same period last year and up 18 percent from the same period last month.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China totaled 7.804 million units, up 8 percent year-on-year.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail was 52.0 percent from May 1-18 and 48.8 percent year-to-date.

In the first week of May -- May 1-5 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 41,659, down 11 percent year-on-year but up 19 percent from the same period last month.

In the second week of May -- May 6-11 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 60,896, up 30 percent year-on-year and up 44 percent from the same period last month.

In the third week of May -- May 12-18, average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 51,175, up 14 percent year-on-year and flat from the same period last month.

During May 1-18, China's wholesale sales of all passenger cars were 858,000 units, up 18 percent compared with the same period last year, but down 2 percent from the same period last month.

During May 1-5, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 34,604, up 3 percent from a year earlier, but down 2 percent from a month earlier.

During May 6-11, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 48,492, up 44 percent year-on-year, but down 2 percent in the same period last month.

During May 12-18, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars were 56,286, up 11 percent year-on-year, but down 2 percent in the same period last month.

So far this year, China's wholesale passenger car sales are 9,326,000 units, up 12 percent compared to the same period last year.

Nio Inc, which includes the Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands, saw insurance registrations of 6,650 vehicles in China last week, up 9.74 percent from the previous week.
