Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will debut the 2025 X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) tomorrow, updating its highest-priced model.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today on Weibo that the facelifted X9 will make its world debut and begin pre-sales on April 8, and an event will begin at 2 pm Beijing time.
Xpeng launched the X9 on January 1, 2024, and the MPV is its flagship model under its SEPA (Smart Electric Platform Architecture) 2.0 architecture.
The X9 is Xpeng's highest-priced to date and is currently offered in five variants with starting prices of RMB 359,800 ($49,410), RMB 379,800, RMB 379,800, RMB 399,800, and RMB 419,800.
He Xiaopeng, Xpeng's chairman and CEO, owns an X9, and he delivered an X9 in May 2024 to William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of Nio (NYSE: NIO).
"As an Xpeng X9 owner who drives over 50,000 kilometers a year, I'm looking forward to it just as much," Mr. He wrote on Weibo today.
The Xpeng X9 is a unique technological flagship for the company, and the 2025 update will focus on optimizing comfort, according to Mr. He.
These updates will involve zero-gravity seats, chassis, and a quieter ride, he said.
"The 2025 Xpeng X9 is even more comfortable and is the benchmark for technology, comfort, and large seven-seaters," he said.
The X9 delivered 21,653 units in 2024, contributing 11.39 percent of Xpeng's 190,068 annual deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The 2025 X9 will be one of Xpeng's intensive product updates so far this year.
On March 13, Xpeng launched the facelifts of the G6 and G9, updating two of its SUV (sport utility vehicle) models to allow for upgraded features and lower prices.
The big increase in Xpeng store visitors following the launch of the 2025 G6 and G9 models drove a big increase in demand for the company's entire lineup, Xpeng management said in a March 18 earnings call.
By the end of 2026, Xpeng's products will cover the mainstream market segments in the price range of RMB 100,000 yuan to RMB 500,000 yuan, ranging from compact to large models, its management said.
In the second half of this year, Xpeng plans to deliver a number of new products, including battery electric vehicle (BEV) models and new products with its Kunpeng Super Hybrid system.
The company has already previewed a new SUV model, the G7, aimed at the RMB 250,000 segment.
