Retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China improved last month, as the impact of factors including the Chinese New Year holiday subsided.

In March, China's passenger NEV retail sales were 988,000 units, up 39 percent year-on-year and up 44 percent from February, according to preliminary data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of China's passenger NEVs stood at 2.414 million units, up 37 percent year-on-year, according to the CPCA.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs in March were 1.13 million units, up 40 percent year-on-year and up 36 percent from February.

So far this year, cumulative wholesale sales of Chinese passenger NEVs totaled 2.849 million units, up 44 percent year-on-year.

In March, retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China totaled 1.889 million units, up 12 percent year-on-year and up 36 percent from February.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger cars in China totaled 5.064 million units, up 5 percent year-on-year.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail stood at 52.3 percent in March and 47.67percent so far this year.

In the first week of March -- March 1-9, average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 40,406, up 14 percent year-on-year and up 52 percent from the same period last month.

In the second week of March -- March 10-16, average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 58,329, up 34 percent year-on-year and up 19 percent from the same period last month.

In the third week of March, March 17-23, average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 54,643, up 8 percent year-on-year and up 11 percent from the same period last month.

In the fourth week of March, March 24-31 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 91,789, up 3 percent year-on-year and flat from the same period last month.

Wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China in March were 2.41 million units, up 10 percent year-on-year and up 37 percent from the same period last month.

During March 1-9, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 44,822 units, up 26 percent year-on-year and up 84 percent from the same period last month.

During March 10-16, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 67,234, up 24 percent year-on-year and up 28 percent from the same period last month.

During March 17-23, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 63,897, up 1 percent year-on-year and up 10 percent from the same period last month.

From March 24-31, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 136,090, up 4 percent year-on-year, but down 12 percent from the same period last month.

So far this year, China's passenger car wholesale sales are 6.275 million units, up 12 percent from the same period last year.

China's wholesale sales of passenger NEVs were estimated at 1.14 million units in February, up 37 percent year-on-year and up 37 percent from February.
