The BYD e7 entered a regulatory catalog of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in January, paving the way for its launch.

The model has a length, width and height of 4,780 mm, 1,900 mm and 1,515 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, according to its filing information.

It is powered by a single electric motor with a peak power of 100 kW and a top speed of 150 km/h.

In February, a new filing revealed that the BYD e7's battery packs are available in 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh options, which can provide CLTC ranges of 450 km and 520 km respectively.

BYD-branded models are usually named after Chinese historical dynasties or marine life, with the e series being the exception.

The last model update for the e series was in March 2024, when BYD launched the e2 Glory Edition as one of the new models in the Ocean series.

The starting price of the e2 Glory Edition was RMB 89,800 ($12,360), but the model is no longer displayed on the BYD website.

Compared with other models in the Ocean series, previous e series models were not very competitive.

Earlier today, BYD began offering discounts on three hybrid models in the Ocean series, bringing the starting price of the non-Smart Driving version of the Sealion 06 DM-i hybrid sedan down to RMB 89,800 yuan.

BYD's move appears to be aimed at clearing inventory of older models after the launch of Smart Driving updates for these models last months.

The e7 is the latest model BYD has mentioned after releasing or teasing multiple new models this month.

BYD has already launched the Qin L EV sedan, the Sealion 05 EV SUV (sport utility vehicle), and the N9 SUV from its sub-brand Denza this month.

Yesterday, its ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang officially launched the luxury sedan U7.

Also yesterday, its other sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao announced that it will start pre-sales of the Tai 3 SUV on March 31.
