BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) is offering discounts on three hybrid models in its Ocean series, in a move that appears to be aimed at clearing inventory of older models after launching Smart Driving Edition updates.

The non-Smart Driving version of the entry variant of the Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedan is now priced at RMB 89,800 ($12,360), a reduction of RMB 10,000, or 10 percent, from the official guide price of RMB 99,800, according to information shared by Zhang Zhuo, head of sales for BYD's Ocean series, on Weibo today.

The non-Smart Driving version of the entry-level variant of the Seal 07 DM-i hybrid sedan is now priced at RMB 129,800, a reduction of RMB 10,000, or 7.15 percent, from the official guide price of RMB 139,800.

The entry-level variant of the non-Smart Driving version of the Song Plus DM-i hybrid SUV (sport utility vehicle) is now priced at RMB 119,800, a reduction of RMB 16,000, or 11.78 percent, from the official guide price of RMB 135,800.

Interested customers can consult BYD dealers for details on these three models, Zhang wrote on Weibo.

BYD announced its smart driving strategy on February 10 and brought Smart Driving Edition updates to 10 models in the Dynasty series and 11 models in the Ocean series.

These updates focus on adding smart driving capabilities to the vehicles, and the prices remain the same as their respective predecessors.

After the launch of the Smart Driving Edition updates, BYD's website no longer displays non-Smart Driving variants.

BYD brand new energy vehicles (NEVs) include the Ocean series and the Dynasty series, and the Dynasty series does not currently offer similar discounts.

The BYD Group -- including the brands BYD, Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang -- sold 4,272,145 NEVs in 2024, an increase of 41.26 percent over 2023.

The BYD brand's Dynasty series sold 2,098,035 vehicles in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 31.44 percent, contributing 49.11 percent of BYD Group's sales, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Ocean series sold 1,946,528 vehicles in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 52.16 percent, contributing 45.56 percent of BYD Group's sales.

BYD Group's car sales target for 2025 is 5.5 million vehicles, including more than 800,000 in overseas markets, the company's chairman and president Wang Chuanfu was quoted as saying in a report by local media LatePost earlier this week.
