Avatr Technology, an electric vehicle (EV) brand backed by Changan Automobile, CATL and Huawei, has started pre-sales for its new sedan, the Avatr 06, with the official launch set for next month.
Avatr offers five options for the Avatr 06 mid-size sedan, with pre-sales starting at RMB 215,900 ($29,720).
The Avatr 06 will be available in three battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants and two extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, and is the third Avatr model to offer both BEV and EREV variants.
The sedan has a length, width and height of 4,855 mm, 1,960 mm and 1,450 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,940 mm.
The Avatr 06 BEV is based on an 800-volt high-voltage platform and has a CLTC range of up to 650 kilometers.
It is available in single-motor and dual-motor variants. The single-motor variant is a rear-wheel-drive model with a motor having a peak power of 252 kW. The dual-motor version has an additional front motor with a peak power of 188 kW.
The Avatr 06 EREV is equipped with a 1.5 T engine with a maximum power of 115 kw. It has a drive motor with a maximum power of 231 kW and a battery range of up to 240 km.
The Avatr 06 will be equipped with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 3.0 smart driving system, and the hardware includes a 192-channel LiDAR.
Avatr said the model will be officially launched in April, and customers who pay RMB 2,000 to make a reservation now can get benefits including a cash discount and a free sports kit.
Like most local EV makers, Avatr initially only offers BEV models.
But experience over the past few years has shown that plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), including EREV, are more popular without range anxiety.
EREVs are powered solely by the battery, so they offer the driving experience of a BEV while also offering a range comparable to that of a fuel vehicle.
On August 21, 2024, Avatr launched an extended-range system called "Kunlun," which was first used in the Avatr 07 SUV.
The Avatr 07 was launched in September 2024 and is the third Avatr model after the Avatr 11 and Avatr 12.
On December 2, 2024, Avatr launched the updated Avatr 11, its second model to offer both BEV and EREV options.
