Reservation order holders can confirm their orders at the end of April, when they will be able to select optional features.

The updated Li Mega show cars will be available at Li Auto showrooms starting at the end of April, and test drives will be available in May.

The main update to the model is in the smart driving hardware, with the smart driving chip upgraded from the previous two Nvidia Orin-X chips to a single Thor-U chip.

The updated Li Mega will support Li Auto's next-generation autonomous driving architecture, MindVLA, Li Auto said.

Li Auto unveiled MindVLA at the Nvidia GTC 2025 event on March 18. Li Xiang, its founder, chairman and CEO, said on Weibo at the time that the architecture would redefine autonomous driving, just as the iPhone 4 redefined smartphones.

Li Mega is Li Auto's first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, which was launched on March 1, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 559,800 at that time.

Less than two months after its launch, the price was lowered by RMB 30,000 to RMB 529,800.

Li Auto had high hopes for the Li Mega, but the model's performance fell far short of expectations and also dragged down sales of the company's other models in the first half of last year.

In 2024, the Li Mega delivered 10,798 vehicles, contributing only 2.16 percent of Li Auto's full-year delivery volume of 500,508, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Li Auto's other models on sale are all extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) -- the Li L9, Li L8, Li L7, and Li L6 -- SUVs that are also expected to smart driving edition updates in May.

The company began teasing its first pure electric SUV, the Li i8, last month, and the model is expected to hit the market in July.
