BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY)'s premium brand Denza has officially launched the N9 to target the large luxury SUV (sport utility vehicle) market.
Denza rolled out the hybrid SUV at an event in Shenzhen today, offering two variants with starting prices of RMB 389,800 yuan ($53,770) and RMB 449,800 yuan, respectively.
The official prices are significantly lower than the pre-sales price range of 450,000 yuan to 550,000 yuan for the N9 announced on February 21.
The six-seat hybrid SUV is Denza's flagship model, with a length, width and height of 5,258 mm, 2,030 mm and 1,830 mm respectively and a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.
In terms of size and price, the Denza N9's main competitors include Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI)'s Li L9, which starts at RMB 409,800, and Aito's M9, which starts at RMB 469,800.
Li Auto is expected to officially launch the updated Li L9 in May, while the 2025 facelifted Aito M9 went on sale on March 20.
The Denza N9 is powered by BYD's e3 technology and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
The e3 technology can be considered a scaled-down version of BYD's e4 technology for ultra-luxury cars, bringing three independent electric motors and rear-wheel steering.
Denza launched the Denza Z9GT on September 20, 2024, which is the first model to feature e3 technology. The Z9 sedan, which was launched last November, also features e3 technology.
The Denza N9 has a 2.0 T engine with a maximum power of 152 kW. Its motors have a total power of 680 kW.
The model is equipped with a 47-kWh battery pack and has a CLTC battery range of 200 kilometers. When fully charged and fully fueled, its combined range can exceed 1,300 kilometers.
The Denza N9 is equipped with BYD's DiSus-A body control system, which is a branch of BYD's DiSus system with air suspension for high-end models.
Its smart driving system is BYD's God's Eye B, and the smart driving solution is DiPilot 300.
The hardware of the smart driving system includes one LiDAR, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 12 cameras, which can realize NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) in cities and on highways, and support valet parking and automatic parking.
In addition to the above models, other models currently sold by Denza include the N7 SUV and D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle).
Denza delivered 8,513 vehicles in February, an increase of 85.15 percent year-on-year but a decrease of 27.36 percent compared to January, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to February, Denza delivered 20,233 vehicles, an increase of 48.05 percent year-on-year.
