-backed Aito has launched the M5 Ultra SUV (sport utility vehicle) with 192-channel LiDAR as standard and lower prices to cope with increasing competition.

The Aito M5 Ultra was rolled out at a Huawei product launch event today, with a starting price of RMB 229,800 ($31,720), and scale deliveries will begin on April 3.

The M5 Ultra replaces the previously available M5, and the starting price has been reduced by RMB 20,000, or 8.01 percent, from RMB 249,800.

Aito offers the M5 Ultra in three variants, including one battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant and two extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.

The BEV variant is rear-wheel drive and starts at RMB 239,800. The two EREV variants include one rear-wheel drive model and one four-wheel drive model, with starting prices of RMB 229,800 and RMB 249,800, respectively.

For comparison, the previous Aito M5 had a starting price of RMB 249,800 yuan, RMB 279,800 yuan, and RMB 269,800 yuan for its three variants.

Huawei said at today's launch event that the M5 Ultra is the most powerful M5 ever, with five major upgrades covering exterior, smart driving, handling, safety and cabin.

The model comes standard with a 192-channel LiDAR and is equipped with 4D millimeter-wave radars.

The five-seater SUV is the smallest in the Aito product line, with a length, width and height of 4,785 mm, 1,930 mm and 1,620 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,880 mm.

The M5 Ultra BEV is equipped with an 83-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack and has a CLTC range of 602 km.

This variant is equipped with a rear electric motor with a peak power of 200 kW and a peak torque of 360 Nm, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.

Both EREV variants are equipped with a 42-kWh ternary lithium battery pack, with a range of 255 km for the rear-wheel drive version and 230 km for the all-wheel drive version. They can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and 4.3 seconds respectively.

Aito is a premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand jointly launched by Huawei and Seres Group on December 2, 2021, and is the first automotive brand under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.

The M5 is Aito's first model, initially launched on December 23, 2021. Aito's currently available models also include the M7 and M9.

The Aito M7 is only available in EREV variants, while both the Aito M5 and Aito M9 are available in both EREV and BEV variants.
