BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) today announced that the Sealion 05 EV, the newest member of its Ocean series, will be officially launched on March 25, and shared more images of the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model.
The Sealion 05 EV will be built on an all-new technology platform and come standard with the God's Eye C smart driving system, said Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD's Ocean series sales division, on Weibo today.
The smart driving system is a DiPilot 100 solution, Zhang said, adding that the model will also come with a DiLink 100 smart cockpit.
The Sealion 05 EV features a rear-drive architecture with a class-leading turning radius, according to Zhang.
BYD shared a video on Weibo just this past weekend showing some of the details of the Sealion 05 EV's exterior.
The electric SUV had already entered a regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in December of last year, showing it to have length, width, and height of 4,520 mm, 1,860 mm, and 1,630 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
This is slightly smaller than the dimensions of the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i, which measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,690/1,720 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm.
The Sealion 05 DM-I was launched on sale on September 23, 2024 and features BYD's latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology.
The Sealion 05 EV in the MIIT catalog came in two versions, weighing 1,780 kg and 1,670 kg, respectively, and both supporting a top speed of 180 km/h.
The two variants are both powered by a single motor with 140 kW and 160 kW peak power options, according to its filing information.
The car will be offered with two range options, with battery pack capacities of 50.048 kWh and 60.928 kWh, and ranges of 430 km and 520 km, respectively.
