BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has entered the Kazakhstan automotive market, further expanding its presence in Central Asia.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, along with its partner Astana Motors, held a product launch event in Almaty, Kazakhstan on February 28 to officially enter the local market, according to a statement from BYD today.

The first BYD models available in Kazakhstan include the Han EV, a pure electric sedan; Song Plus EV, a pure electric SUV (sport utility vehicle); and Song Plus DM-i, a hybrid SUV.

Kazakhstan is the third Central Asian country that BYD has entered, after the NEV maker has already entered Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

BYD's models launched in Kazakhstan are tuned for local climate and road conditions to ensure performance and driving comfort, the company said.

The Han EV is powered by BYD's blade batteries and is equipped with CTB (cell to body) technology. The model can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.9 seconds and has a WLTP range of 565 kilometers.

The Song Plus EV is available in Kazakhstan with 505-km and 602-km range options with driver assistance systems.

The Song Plus DM-i has an NEDC battery range of 150 kilometers and a combined range of 1,200 kilometers.

The entry into Kazakhstan -- a major transportation hub on the Silk Road -- is BYD's latest effort to explore the Central Asian market.

The company entered Uzbekistan in March 2023 when it introduced the Han EV, the Song Plus DM-i, and the Chazor DM-i, known in China as the Chaser 05.

BYD has a factory in Uzbekistan, which in June 2024 saw the first production cars roll off the assembly line.

Last August, BYD entered the Pakistani passenger car market with the Atto 3, the Seal EV, and the hybrid Sealion 6. In China, the Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus, and the Sealion 6 is known as the Song Plus DM-i.

BYD would open its first NEV assembly plant in Pakistan, possibly in Karachi, depending on development needs, the company said last August.

The first phase of BYD's Uzbekistan plant will produce the plug-in hybrid models Song Plus DM-i and Chazor DM-i, with an estimated annual capacity of 50,000 units.
