Xiaomi's (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) first electric vehicle (EV) model, the SU7, has been a huge success, and figures revealed by the company's founder offer some details.
By the end of 2024, the SU7 had accumulated more than 248,000 locked-in orders after just 9 months on the market, Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun said at a product launch event that was being streamed live on video.
Throughout the year 2024, Xiaomi SU7 accumulated over 135,000 deliveries, Lei said at the launch event, repeating a number mentioned earlier.
Xiaomi is holding a launch event for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra smartphone as well as the SU7 Ultra -- the ultra-performance variant of the SU7.
The SU7 was officially launched on March 28, 2024 and delivered over 20,000 units in each of the past four months, Xiaomi's car-making arm Xiaomi EV said earlier this month.
The SU7 is offered in three variants -- Standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900, RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.
At a wide-coverage product launch event on October 29 last year, Lei unveiled the SU7 Ultra and announced that the model was available for pre-sales at a price of RMB 814,900, which is roughly four times the price of the regular SU7.
The ultra-performance variant garnered 3,680 pre-orders 10 minutes after the pre-sales began on October 29 last year, Xiaomi EV announced on Weibo at the time.
Xiaomi's sales target for the SU7 Ultra this year is 10,000 units, Lei said on February 5.
Xiaomi's goal is to deliver 300,000 vehicles in 2025, Lei said in a December 31 livestream.
In addition to the SU7 and SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi expects to launch the YU7 electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) in June or July.
Customers who currently buy the SU7 will still have to wait about 30 weeks, or seven months, for delivery, CnEVPost's monitoring shows.
