After sharing the first images of the Li i8 yesterday, Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) has released more images of its first all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model.
The Chinese automaker took to its social media platforms today to share 2 new images showing the side of the Li i8, as well as a comparison with Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model X.
"Good role model. Li i8, Li Auto's first all-electric SUV," the company wrote on Weibo, suggesting that the Model X is a worthy example to follow.
The latest images show the front end of the Li i8 styled somewhat similarly to the Model X, with a relatively short front overhang.
The Li Auto SUV is significantly longer and taller than the Model X, hinting at more interior space.
Li Auto is one of the major extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) players in China, and currently sells mainly L-series extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), including the Li L6, Li L7, Li L8, and Li L9, all of which are SUVs.
On March 1, 2024, the Li Mega MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) was launched, the first BEV from Li Auto.
Yesterday, Li Auto announced that its first all-electric SUV has been named the Li i8 and shared 2 images that put the Li i8 alongside the Li L9 and Li Mega showing their front and rear ends.
Li Auto has yet to mention the seating layout of the Li i8, though it could be a three-row, six-seat model, judging by the naming of Li Auto's other models.
The less expensive Li L6 and Li L7 are two-row five-seaters, while the Li L8 and Li L9 are three-row, six-seaters.
The "L" in the name of Li Auto's EREVs stands for "Leading", while the "i" in the name of its all-electric SUVs stands for "intelligence", Li Xiang, its founder, chairman and CEO, said on Weibo yesterday.
The announcement of the Li i8 fueled investor optimism, pushing Li Auto's Hong Kong-traded shares up 12.52 percent at the close of trading yesterday.
