Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) will begin deliveries of the facelifted Model Y in China on Wednesday, February 26, slightly ahead of the initially planned March when the crossover was launched.
The first deliveries of the updated Model Y in China will officially begin tomorrow, Tesla said today on Weibo.
Tesla launched the revamped five-seat Model Y, codenamed Juniper, in China on January 10 and began offering two variants it calls the Launch Series.
Its Chinese website previously indicated that deliveries of the facelifted Model Y were expected to begin in March, pending regulatory approval.
Earlier this month, the Model Y was included in a catalog of models that qualify for purchase tax reductions, meaning the model completed the full regulatory process for sales in China.
An update to Tesla's China website on February 18 showed that deliveries of the revamped Model Y would begin in late February, rather than March as previously indicated.
The electric vehicle (EV) maker announced on the same day that production of the facelifted Model Y had begun at its Shanghai factory.
Tesla is currently offering two Launch Series variants of the facelifted Model Y, which will be on sale for a limited time until February 28, with purchasers receiving an additional two-year or 40,000-kilometer extended warranty.
The two Model Y variants include a rear-wheel-drive version that starts at RMB 263,500 ($36,270) and a long-range all-wheel-drive version that starts at RMB 303,500.
The most notable changes to the facelifted Model Y are the exterior design, which takes inspiration from the Cybertruck and Cybercab robotaxi, and a slight increase in range.
Tesla's Shanghai factory produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y, both delivering to local customers and serving as an export hub for it.
Giga Shanghai began operations in late 2019 and starts deliveries of the locally produced Model 3 in January 2020 and the locally produced Model Y in January 2021.
