SAIC-GM-Wuling has launched a four-door version of its hot-selling micro-electric vehicle (EV), the Hongguang Mini EV, to further expand its user reach.

The automaker yesterday launched the four-door Mini EV with a starting price range of RMB 44,800 ($6,180) to RMB 50,800.

The two-door version of the Mini EV remains available, with a current starting price range of RMB 35,800 to RMB 46,800.

Wuling launched the Mini EV in July 2020, and the affordable price tag and compact body gave it a high level of acceptance.

To date, the Mini EV family has cumulatively sold more than 1.5 million units, Wuling said at yesterday's launch event.

The four-door Mini EV has larger dimensions of 3,256 mm in length, 1,510 mm in width and 1,578 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,190 mm.

By comparison, the two-door Mini EV measures 3,064 mm in length, 1,493 mm in width and 1,614 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,010 mm.

The four-door Mini EV is powered by a battery pack based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry with a capacity of 16.2 kWh and a CLTC range of 205 kilometers in all three variants.

It supports DC fast charging and can charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in 35 minutes.

The model weighs 780 kilograms and has a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour. Its electric motor has a peak power of 30 kW.

SAIC-GM-Wuling is a joint venture between SAIC, General Motors and Liuzhou Wuling Motors, headquartered in Liuzhou city, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in southwestern China.

It sells vehicles built on the GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) architecture in China, including the Mini EV, KiWi EV, Nano EV, and Air EV.

In addition to the all-electric models, SAIC-GM-Wuling also sells fuel-powered SUVs, MPVs, and van models.
