- The Maextro S800, a model designed on the L3 autonomous driving architecture, will be launched at the Shenzhen auto show at the end of May.
- The model is expected to be priced between RMB 1 million ($138,000) and RMB 1.5 million.
Maextro, a new automotive brand jointly created by Huawei and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), will officially launch its first model, the Maextro S800, at the end of May, in an attempt to get a piece of the ultra-luxury sedan market.
Richard Yu, Huawei's managing director and chairman of the smart car solutions business unit, announced the timing today at a Maextro technology event, saying the model will be launched at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show in Shenzhen.
The Maextro S800 will be available in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants, similar to many other models under Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.
The model is a luxury sedan, and the EREV and BEV variants share the same dimensions of 5,480 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width and 1,536 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,370 mm. Both the EREV and BEV variants will be available in 4-seat and 5-seat versions.
The EREV variant of the Maextro S800 will be powered by an 800V high-voltage battery pack with a capacity of 65 kWh, which supports 6C fast charging and can be recharged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 10.5 minutes, Yu said at the event, which was broadcast live.
The BEV variant will be equipped with a 5C battery pack that takes 12 minutes to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent.
Yu presented the safety of the Maextro S800 at today's event, saying that the model can anticipate and respond to road conditions 200 to 50 milliseconds in advance.
In rainy and snowy weather, the model is able to anticipate the risk of skidding and increase emergency avoidance speeds up to 80 kilometers per hour.
The Maextro S800 is designed on an L3 autonomous driving architecture, with intelligent driving hardware comprising 32 sensors, including four LiDARs.
Despite being a large sedan, the Maextro S800 has the driving agility of a small car.
The model supports rear-wheel steering, which reduces the turning radius to 5.05 meters, smaller than a BMW Mini with a 2.52-meter wheelbase, Yu said.
Maextro is the fourth new brand created by Huawei with a local car company, and the most highly positioned under Huawei's HIMA umbrella.
The other three brands under the HIMA business are Stelato, which Huawei built with BAIC Group, Seres Group's Aito, and Chery's Luxeed.
Huawei unveiled the Maextro S800 on November 26, 2024, stating that the model was expected to be priced between RMB 1 million ($138,000) and RMB 1.5 million.
