Xiaomi EV, the car-making arm of Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY), has filed for a new dual-motor variant for the YU7 SUV (sport utility vehicle), after previously filing for a single-motor and a dual-motor variant.

The public can submit feedback between February 20-26. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.

The Xiaomi YU7 has only one page in the latest new model catalog, with product model number XMA6500LBEVA2.

The five-seater is powered by dual electric motors with a peak power of 130 kW at the front and 235 kW at the rear, from suppliers Inovance Automotive and United Automotive Electronic Systems.

The new variant is powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from 's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) battery division FinDreams Battery.

It measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, the same as the other two variants that have been filed previously.

The new variant weighs 2,425 kg and supports a top speed of 240 km/h.

The YU7 is Xiaomi's second model after the SU7 electric sedan and made its debut in the MIIT's regulatory catalog on December 9 last year. Xiaomi said at the time that the launch of the YU7 was expected in June or July.

The model in the December catalog was a dual-motor version with larger peak power from both front and rear motors at 220 kW and 288 kW respectively.

On January 10, a single-motor version of the YU7 was included in another MIIT regulatory catalog, with one rear motor that peaked at 235 kW.

Two days ago, MIIT released a catalog of models eligible for purchase tax reductions, showing that the YU7 has a CLTC range of up to 820 km.
