- Xiaomi has filed for configuration changes for the SU7 Ultra, with the number of seats changing to either 5 or 2 from the previous 5.
- Xiaomi previously said the SU7 Ultra would be released at the end of February.
Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) is expected to officially launch the powerful SU7 Ultra in a few days, when it may have a surprise -- a 2-seat version.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released new regulatory catalogs today for public comment, and the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is included in a catalog of configuration changes.
The public can submit feedback between February 20-26. Entering the MIIT's catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
For the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the main change is that the number of seats has changed to 5 or 2 from 5 previously.
Additionally, the new filing adds more sizes of tires to the SU7 Ultra.
In a wide-range product launch event on October 29, 2024, Xiaomi's founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun unveiled the SU7 Ultra and announced that the model became available for pre-sales at a price of RMB 814,900 ($111,870).
The official launch of the SU7 Ultra would be in March 2025, Lei said at the launch event last October.
However, on February 5, Lei said at RedNote that Xiaomi would release the SU7 Ultra when the company launches the Xiaomi 15 Ultra phone at the end of this month.
The SU7 Ultra targets sales of 10,000 units this year, Lei said at the time.
He didn't mention a specific date, though local media outlet Yiche reported on February 5 that the SU7 Ultra would be launched on February 27.
No launch date for the model has been announced by Xiaomi or its car-making arm, Xiaomi EV.
The addition of a 2-seater option means that Xiaomi may be looking to offer a more pure electric supercar experience with the SU7 Ultra.
In October last year, Xiaomi said the SU7 Ultra prototype completed a challenge at the Nürburgring in Germany with a lap time of 6 minutes, 46.874 seconds, making it the fastest four-door car on the track.
Earlier this month, Xiaomi EV tested the SU7 Ultra at 4 domestic racetracks, claiming the model achieved the fastest lap times at all of them.
