- China exported 150,000 units of NEVs in January, the second consecutive record high.
- BEV exports in January were 100,000 units, up 20.4 percent from December, while PHEVs exports were 50,000 units, down 0.1 percent from December.
China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales declined in January, mainly due to seasonal factors affecting domestic sales, while export sales continued to reach a record high.
In January, China's NEV sales totaled 944,000 units, up 29.4 percent year-on-year but down 40.85 percent from December, according to data released today by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
CAAM's NEV sales are the wholesale sales of automakers, including those in China and those exported to overseas markets. NEVs include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and fuel-cell vehicles.
The decline in NEV sales from the previous month was mainly due to the Chinese New Year holiday from January 28 to February 4. Previous data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed a similar picture.
China's BEV sales in January amounted to 574,000 units, up 29.1 percent year-on-year but down 41.01 percent from December.
PHEV sales in January were 370,000 units, up 30.28 percent year-on-year but down 40.51 percent from December.
China's all vehicle sales in January were 2,423,000 units, 0.6 percent lower year-on-year and 30.5 percent lower than in December.
This meant that NEV penetration stood at 39.0 percent in January, up from 29.9 percent a year earlier but down from 45.7 percent in December.
Excluding exports, domestic NEV sales in January were 793,000 units, up 26.2 percent year-on-year but down 26.2 percent from December.
In January, 470,000 vehicles were exported from China, up 6.17 percent year-on-year but down 6.8 percent from December.
Of these, 150,000 units of NEVs were exported, the second consecutive month of record highs. This is up 49.6 percent year-on-year and up 12.6 percent from December.
China exported 100,000 units of BEVs in January, up 22 percent year-on-year and up 20.4 percent from December.
Exports of PHEVs in January were 50,000 units, up 170 percent year-on-year and down 0.1 percent from December.
