- Xpeng has launched the right-hand-drive version of the G6 in the UK with a starting price of £39,990 ($49,800).
- Xpeng plans to open 20 stores in the UK in 2025 with dealer partner IML.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has officially entered the United Kingdom, beginning its market expansion efforts in one of the world's most important right-hand drive markets.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced yesterday that it has launched the right-hand drive version of the Xpeng G6 SUV (sport utility vehicle), its first right-hand drive model, in the UK.
Xpeng offers two variants of the G6 in the UK, starting at £39,990 ($49,800) for the Standard Range variant and £44,990 for the Long Range variant.
Deliveries of the right-hand-drive G6 in the UK will begin in March, Xpeng said.
Xpeng launched the G6 in China on June 29, 2023, with deliveries beginning in early July.
The SUV is a competitor to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that is a global hot-seller.
The G6's current starting price in China is RMB 199,900 ($27,360), lower than the RMB 263,500 starting price of the locally produced Model Y.
The higher prices in overseas markets are largely due to additional costs including transportation and tariffs.
Xpeng brought the G6 to the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 last July, marking the SUV's UK debut.
In November last year, Xpeng signed a partnership agreement with IML (International Motors Ltd), a leading European car dealer group, to enter the UK market.
Xpeng and IML plan to open 20 dealerships in the UK in 2025, ensuring a strong local presence and a more widespread customer support network, according to the EV maker's overnight press release.
"Our launch in the UK, in partnership with International Motors Ltd (IML), marks a significant step in Xpeng's European and global expansion," said Brian Gu, vice chairman and president of Xpeng.
At the UK launch event for the G6, Xpeng showcased the P7+ sedan, G9 SUV, X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), and the X2 flying car from Xpeng Aeroht.
Xpeng Aeroht is a subsidiary of Xpeng and the largest eVTOL company in Asia, its press release reads.
By the end of 2025, Xpeng's aims to expand its presence in more than 60 countries and regions, it said, repeating a previously mentioned goal.
Xpeng had entered the automotive markets of 30 countries and regions by the end of 2024.
In the next 10 years, Xpeng wants half of its car sales to come from overseas, the company's chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said earlier this month.
