BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has given its compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) Yuan Up its European debut, with a local launch expected next month.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker is showcasing nine models, including the Yuan Up, at the ongoing Brussels auto show, it said yesterday on Weibo.
The Yuan Up has been rebranded in Europe as the Atto 2. BYD's other larger SUV, the Yuan Plus, rebranded as the Atto 3 in overseas markets, is the first model in the Atto lineup.
BYD launched the Yuan Up in China on March 26, 2024, offering four variants with current starting prices of RMB 96,800 ($13,200), RMB 99,800, RMB 109,800, and RMB 119,800 respectively.
The compact SUV measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm.
BYD will officially launch the Atto 2 in Europe in February, which will intensify competition in the European electric vehicle (EV) market, Reuters said in a report last week.
The Atto 2, which complements the larger Atto 3 launched in 2022, is the group's most accessible SUV to date and will compete in the B-SUV segment, the report quoted a BYD spokesperson as saying.
Its European rivals include the Peugeot e-2008, Citroen e-C3, Opel Mokka-e, Fiat 600e, Kia Niro, and later this year Renault's new R4, the report noted.
Prices for the Atto 2 in Europe will only be confirmed "in many countries in a few weeks' time", but logically it should fall between the Dolphin and Atto 3, according to the report.
As background, in the UK the Dolphin starts at GBP 26,140 ($31,980) and the Atto 3 at GBP 37,140.
BYD sold 4,272,145 NEVs in 2024, up 41.26 percent year-on-year.
It sold 417,204 units overseas in 2024, up 71.86 percent year-on-year.
