BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has entered into an electric vehicle (EV) supply partnership with Grab, Southeast Asia's largest ride-hailing company, following a similar partnership with Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) last July.

Grab and BYD announced a regional partnership that will give Grab driver partners across Southeast Asia access to up to 50,000 BYD EVs, the Singapore-based ride-hailing company said today.

The companies hope to provide Grab's fleet partners and driver partners with access to BYD vehicles by offering them the most competitive rates, as well as an extended warranty on the EVs' batteries.

Drivers will have the option of renting EVs from Grab's fleet partners, as well as the option of receiving financing support through Grab's car ownership program.

The partnership spans Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and involves a number of models, including the Denza D9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal and BYD M6, according to an announcement.

Grab plans to make BYD's premium EV brand Denza the cornerstone of its GrabExec fleet featuring the Denza D9 luxury seven-seat electric MPV.

By integrating the Denza D9 into its fleet, Grab aims to set a new standard for executive transportation based on convenience, style, and sustainability, the company said.

“This collaboration enables us to drive the transition to EVs forward by lowering the financial barriers that are often associated with EVs, and in the long run deliver economic benefits to our driver-partners which may include fuel cost savings,” said Chuck Kim, managing director of business development at Grab.

BYD and Grab will work together to facilitate deep IoT integration between vehicles and Grab's platform and services.

By installing the Grab driver app on the head unit of BYD vehicles, drivers will be able to view their work, navigation at a glance on a larger screen.

Sensor and telemetry data from BYD vehicles will be integrated directly into the Grab platform, providing real-time insights into drivers' driving patterns and behaviors, which Grab can use to guide drivers on how to improve their driving behavior.

Notably, Grab had announced in August last year that it planned to expand its fleet size in Indonesia by more than 1,000 EVs by the end of 2024, mainly BYD vehicles.

On July 31, 2024, US ride-hailing company Uber announced a multi-year strategic partnership with BYD aimed at bringing 100,000 new BYD EVs onto the Uber platform across key global markets.

The partnership, which began in Europe and Latin America, was expected to provide drivers with pricing and financing for BYD cars on the Uber platform, Uber's statement at the time said.

The partnership will also expand to markets such as the Middle East, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, according to the statement.

BYD sold 4,272,145 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 41.26 percent, mainly affordable models.

It sold 417,204 units overseas for the full year 2024, up 71.86 percent year-on-year.

Earlier this month, Deutsche Bank analyst Wang Bin's team projected BYD to sell 5.52 million vehicles in 2025 in a research note.
