Denza, 's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand, is reportedly building an electric sports car to enrich its product matrix.

Several Chinese automotive media outlets, including Auto Home, today shared the same spy shots of what they claim is Denza's electric sports car, saying the model uses the blue camouflage common to Denza's past models.

The new model is a two-door, four-seat sports car that was originally a production version of Fang Cheng Bao's Super 9 concept, but has later been assigned under the Denza brand, according to Auto Home.

The sports car, which will have hardtop and convertible versions, is expected to be officially unveiled at the Shanghai auto show, which begins on April 25, according to the report.

It will be priced at more than RMB 300,000 yuan ($40,920), with performance benchmarked against the Porsche 911, the report said.

Fang Cheng Bao -- the sister brand of Denza -- is a personalized sub-brand of BYD.

On April 16, 2024, Fang Cheng Bao unveiled the Bao 8 SUV (sport utility vehicle) at its spring launch event, as well as two concepts, the Super 3 SUV, and the Super 9 supercar.

The Super 9 concept and other Fang Cheng Bao models were shown a few days later at the 2024 Beijing auto show, which began on April 25.

The Bao 8, already launched on November 12 last year, is Fang Cheng Bao's second model after the Bao 5 SUV and the first under the BYD umbrella to feature 's driver assistance system.

The Super 9 combines and speed with art, and is a professional sports car in the Speedster category, featuring a space-cockpit cab, Fang Cheng Bao said at the launch on April 16 last year.

As of now, the only available sports car under BYD's umbrella is the U9 from ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang, which starts at RMB 1.68 million ($230,000).

The new spy shots come at a time when Denza reportedly has an aggressive 2025 sales plan.

Earlier today, local media outlet AutoPix cited people familiar with the matter as saying that Denza is targeting sales of more than 300,000 units in 2025.

The brand sold 126,035 units in the full year 2024, down 1.41 percent from 127,840 in 2023, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

If that target is true, it would mean that Denza would like to see a 138 percent increase in sales in 2025.
