- Weighing 2,882 kg, the Tang L SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, according to its filing information.
- The Tang L will use the same dual-motor powertrain as the Han L, with the front motor peaking at 230 kW and the rear motor peaking at 580 kW.
In addition to the Han L sedan, BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Tang L SUV (sport utility vehicle) will also come with a powerful powertrain, according to a regulatory filing.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of models that will be allowed to be sold on January 10 for public comment, and the BYD Tang L is included.
The public can submit their feedback between January 11-17. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
The Tang L has three battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions in the catalog, with product model numbers BYD6500AJBEV4, BYD6500AJBEV5, and BYD6500AJBEV6.
It is also has five plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions in the catalog, with model numbers BYD6500AJHEV1, BYD6500AJHEV2, BYD6500AJHEV3, BYD6500AJHEV4 and BYD6500AJHEV5.
The Tang L BEV with model number BYD6500AJBEV4 uses the same dual-motor powertrain as the Han L, with 230 kW peak power from the front motor and 580 kW peak power from the rear motor.
The model has “3.9S” on the rear, meaning the 2,882-kg SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
As CnEVPost mentioned yesterday, peak power of 580 kW from a single motor is rare. In the past few years, even motors with a peak power of 300 kW have been uncommon.
On December 28, 2023, Xiaomi unveiled the V8s motor at its EV tech event, claiming to have 578 PS of maximum horsepower and 425 kW of peak power, with 27,200 rpm being the first in the world.
The Han L, also in the latest MIIT catalog, has “2.7S” on the rear, suggesting the model can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.
The BEV and PHEV variants of the Tang L have the same dimensions, measuring 5,040 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm.
The Tang L BEV in the catalog has a single-motor version with a peak motor power of 500 kW and unknown acceleration information.
The Tang L PHEV is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and 115 kW of power output.
The single-motor version of the hybrid SUV is powered by an electric motor with a peak power of 200 kW, and the dual-motor version has an additional motor also with a peak power of 200 kW.
Some variants of the BYD Tang L come with LiDAR on the roof. The current Tang and Han family models are not equipped with LiDAR, and the addition of this component is expected to lead to more powerful intelligent driving capabilities.
