- JAC Yiwei will prioritize the adoption of CATL's CIIC-S platform for its passenger car program, which involves battery swap-enabled models, BEVs and EREVs.
- The two companies will also promote joint research and development of advanced technologies for intelligent chassis, involving thermal management, battery packs and EE architectures.
Yiwei, the electric vehicle (EV) unit of Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), has signed a new agreement with CATL to build new models based on the battery giant's skateboard chassis.
The two signed the agreement on January 3 in Ningde, Fujian province, where CATL is headquartered, in the presence of Xiang Xingchu, chairman and general manager of JAC, and Robin Zeng, chairman and CEO of CATL, according to an announcement from Yiwei today.
The agreement complements and deepens a strategic cooperation agreement signed by the two on January 6, 2024, when they determined that they would build new models based on CATL's CIIC (CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis) skateboard chassis, Yiwei said.
The companies will prioritize the adoption of the CIIC-S platform for Yiwei's new energy vehicle (NEV) passenger car program, which involves battery swap-enabled models, battery electric vehicle (BEV) models, and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models, according to today's announcement.
The two companies will also work together to promote joint research and development of advanced intelligent chassis technologies involving thermal management, battery packs and EE architectures, Yiwei said.
CIIC technology enables decoupling and parallel development of upper and lower bodies, thus shortening the development cycle.
Last August, Neta Auto said its upcoming Neta S shooting brake would be the first model to be built on CATL's CIIC skateboard chassis.
However, Neta is currently facing financial woes and its domestic operations are experiencing challenges.
On December 24, CATL launched the Bedrock Chassis, a flagship variant of the CIIC, and the first automaker to adopt the Bedrock Chassis is Avatr Technology, a subsidiary of Changan Automobile.
