Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) sold a record number of electric vehicles (EVs) in China last month, as fourth-quarter deliveries hit a record high, albeit below Wall Street expectations.
The US electric vehicle (EV) maker sold an all-time high about 83,000 units in China in December, up 12.8 percent from November, Tesla said last night.
For the full year 2024, Tesla sold about 657,000 units in China, up 8.8 percent year-on-year and also an all-time high, it said.
The company did not mention figures detailed into single digits, which are expected to be available soon in data published by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
A simple calculation by CnEVPost based on the growth rate mentioned by Tesla shows that Tesla sold about 82,896 units in China in December. For the company, its retail sales in China are deliveries.
The EV maker delivered a record 495,570 vehicles globally in the fourth quarter, but fell short of analysts' expectations of 512,277, according to data it released yesterday.
Deliveries for the quarter were up 2.28 percent from 484,507 in the same period in 2023 and up 7.06 percent from 462,890 in the third quarter.
For the full year 2024, Tesla delivered 1,789,226 vehicles worldwide, down 1.07 percent from 1,808,581 in 2023, the first decline in more than a decade.
