Autonomous driving startup Pony AI (NASDAQ: PONY) plans to offer in-airport robotaxi commuting service for staff at Hong Kong International Airport, it said in an announcement today.

Next, Pony AI plans to expand its robotaxi service to downtown Hong Kong, it said.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong recently showed a number of driverless vehicles to the media, and most of these driverless models are already or will soon be in use at the airport, its announcement noted.

Pony AI's sixth-generation robotaxi was invited to demonstrate, it said.

For Pony AI, access to Hong Kong International Airport proved the driverless vehicle's ability to drive unmanned in highly complex environments under traffic rules of driving on the left, the company said.

Currently, Pony AI is already conducting fee-based self-driving robotaxi services at the Beijing Daxing International Airport and is conducting self-driving tests on the core roadways connecting to the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

In the first half of 2024, Pony AI averaged more than 15 orders per day per fully unmanned robotaxi, the company said.

Pony AI is actively exploring international markets, laying out its self-driving businesses in countries and regions such as South Korea, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, it said.

The company went public on the Nasdaq on November 27, marking the largest initial public offering (IPO) in the autonomous driving sector on the US stock market in 2024.
