Xiaomi has launched a special red exterior color for the SU7, which will be available starting January 1, as marketing about the hot-selling model continues.
Xiaomi's (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) SU7 is one of the rare electric vehicle (EV) models in the Chinese market that continues to sell well after a period of time on the market, and marketing has played a big role in that.
The smartphone maker announced today that it is launching a special exterior color for the SU7, red, as a limited-edition color to commemorate its 15th anniversary.
The Xiaomi SU7 with the limited color will be available for sale on the Xiaomi EV App starting January 1 at 0:00 Beijing Time, Xiaomi announced on Weibo.
The company shared several posters showing the exterior details of the Xiaomi SU7 with the special color.
The red color option is priced at RMB 9,000 ($1,230), higher than the RMB 7,000 for the other optional colors.
Vehicles with this exterior color are in production, and the show cars are expected to be available starting in February 2025 at Xiaomi EV stores.
Xiaomi was founded in April 2010 and went public on July 9, 2018 in Hong Kong. Its core business is smartphones and other smart hardware.
The company announced in a Hong Kong Stock Exchange announcement on March 30, 2021, that it planned to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary to take care of its smart EV business. This marked its official announcement of entering the car-making space.
The SU7 made its debut on December 28, 2023, when Xiaomi's founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun introduced its core specifications and said that Xiaomi EV aimed to be one of the top five car companies in the world within 20 years.
On March 28 this year, the SU7 was officially launched, offering three variants -- Standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900, RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.
Deliveries of the Standard and Max versions of the SU7 began in April, and deliveries of the SU7 Pro began in May.
On December 28, Xiaomi EV said SU7 deliveries had exceeded 130,000 units, as the electric sedan turned one year from its debut.
Customers who order the model now will have to wait at least 17 weeks, according to CnEVPost's monitoring.
Xiaomi EV's already announced plans for new model releases include the more powerful SU7 Ultra, as well as its first SUV (sport utility vehicle) model, the YU7.
Xiaomi announced on October 29 that the SU7 Ultra became available for pre-sales in China at a price of RMB 814,900, nearly four times the starting price of the regular SU7.
The official launch of the SU7 Ultra will be in March 2025, the smartphone maker said on October 29.
Lei will be hosting a New Year's Eve presentation at the Xiaomi EV factory on December 31 at 8 pm Beijing Time, which will be livestreamed.
