Nio will offer 10 years of free use of five L60s at the December 31 New Year's Eve gala on one of China's most-watched television channels.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) is stepping up its marketing efforts for Onvo, as the sub-brand's first model, the L60, marks 100 days of availability.
Viewers of Hunan Television's New Year's Eve gala, which begins at 8 pm Beijing time on December 31, will have a chance to win 10 years of free use of the Onvo L60, with a total of five vehicles available, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li announced today on Weibo.
Hunan Television is one of the most-watched television channels in China, known for its entertainment programs, including reality shows, and occasionally surpassing the No. 1 CCTV-1 in viewership.
Li shared a short video on Weibo that he recorded with Onvo president Alan Ai, mentioning that today is the 100th day since the launch of the Onvo L60.
Ai previously said he'd offer 10 free Nio Phones to lucky winners if Onvo delivers more than 10,000 units in a single month in December, but that's a bit of a small reward, Li said on Weibo.
“Watch Hunan Television's New Year's Eve gala on December 31 at 8 pm. At that time you can open the JD.com mobile app and will get a chance to win 10 years of use of Onvo L60, with a total of 5 units,” Li said.
Earlier today, Onvo announced on Weibo that cumulative deliveries of the L60 exceeded 20,000 units.
The milestone means that Onvo L60 has delivered at least 9,767 units so far this month, considering its cumulative deliveries at the end of November were 10,233 units, CnEVPost's calculations show.
Onvo officially launched the L60 on September 19 and began deliveries on September 28.
Monthly deliveries of the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model were 832, 4,319 and 5,082 units in the past three months.
Onvo's seemingly slow capacity climb post launch has raised some concerns, though the Nio management has repeatedly emphasized that it is an industry norm.
On November 27, Ai said on Weibo that he was confident that the Onvo L60 would deliver more than 10,000 units in a single month in December, and that if that target was met, and that he would give away 10 free Nio Phones on Weibo if that target was met.
