Xpeng announced on May 8 that it had entered into a partnership with Australian distributor TrueEV to enter the southern hemisphere country's auto market.

The two companies held an event together on December 16 to celebrate the official launch of the Xpeng brand in Australia and the completion of the Xpeng Center Sydney.

The flagship showroom, which officially opened to the public on December 18, occupies 3,000 square meters of prime real estate at 2 Sir Reginald Ansett Drive Mascot NSW 2020, at the entrance to Sydney Airport's domestic precinct.

Three more Xpeng Centers will open in Australia by the end of 2024, TrueEV CEO Jason Clarke said.

These Xpeng Centers are part of a broader plan to expand the brand's footprint in Australia, with 20 stores expected to open by the end of 2025, Clarke said.

Xpeng launched the G6 in China on June 29, 2023, with deliveries beginning in early July last year.

The SUV is a competitor to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that is a global hot seller.

The G6 is currently priced from RMB 199,900 ($27,390) in China, lower than the RMB 249,900 price tag of the Model Y.
The SUV is the only Xpeng model to offer both left-hand drive and right-hand drive variants, and is available in more than 30 countries and regions, including Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Singapore, Thailand, and Australia.
