On Nio Day 2024, the official launch of the ET9 and the launch of the Firefly brand will mark a significant expansion in the price range covered by Nio's product lineup.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) has shared the latest official images of the ET9, as its executive flagship sedan is 3 days away from its official launch.
The company shared six latest images of the ET9 with a blue exterior on Weibo today, showcasing multiple details of the sedan, shortly after it began warming up for its sub-brand Firefly earlier today.
“The tech executive flagship Nio ET9 will be officially launched on December 21, Nio Day 2024,” the company wrote on Weibo.
The upcoming Nio Day 2024 will be held this Saturday in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, where the focus will be on the Firefly sub-brand and its first model, as well as the official launch of the ET9.
The event will represent a significant expansion of the price range covered by Nio's product lineup to reach a wider market.
The Nio ET9 was unveiled a year ago at Nio Day 2023, with a pre-sale price of RMB 800,000 ($109,810), Nio's highest priced. Deliveries of the model is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
The current price range for models being delivered under the Nio main brand is between RMB 300,000 and RMB 600,000, including the battery pack.
The Onvo sub-brand will cover the range of RMB 200,000 to RMB 300,000, with the first model, the L60, starting at RMB 206,900.
Nio's management had previously mentioned that Firefly will target the RMB 100,000 to RMB 200,000 price range.
The first Firefly model is expected to be priced at around RMB 150,000 including the battery, to take on the electric Mini and Smart.
The ET9 is packed with a number of the latest technologies and will be the first to carry Nio's own 5 nm process-based Shenji autonomous driving chip. All models based on the current NT 2.0 vehicle platform under Nio's main brand are equipped with four Nvidia Orin chips as standard.
The sedan's SkyRide intelligent chassis system is also one of the biggest selling points, and Nio has previously shared videos of the vehicle being able to move up and down significantly, demonstrating the chassis system's capabilities.
On December 9, Nio said the ET9's steer-by-wire (SBW) technology was granted mass-production permit by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), making it the first mass-produced vehicle in China to feature SBW technology.
Nio will participate in the development of a national standard for SBW as a core member and the only company with an actual mass-produced model, it said on December 9.
