Nio (NYSE: NIO) is about to officially launch its third brand, Firefly, at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, and the head of the sub-brand has been revealed before then.

During a December 12 media meetup, Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li said the head of the Firefly brand is Daniel Jin (金舸 in Chinese, pinyin: Jin Ge), a former SAIC-GM executive.

Jin stood up and briefly waved hello to the reporters at the media meetup, but no further information about him was revealed.

A CnEVPost check revealed that Jin is an automotive industry veteran with a long career at SAIC Motor Corp.

Jin joined Nio in January 2022 as “Associate Vice President & General Manager of Nio Sub Brand”.

He was promoted to Vice President of Nio in September of this year.

Nio officially unveiled its third brand, Firefly, on November 20, which was also previously known by its internal codename Firefly, saying that deliveries of the new brand's first model would begin in the first half of 2025.

One of the key themes of this weekend's Nio Day 2024 will be the official introduction of the Firefly brand, with the launch of the sub-brand's first model likely to be months away. The Nio ET9 is also expected to be officially launched at Nio Day 2024, when pricing information will hopefully be made available.

Jin's LinkedIn profile shows that he joined SAIC Motor in July 2007 as "Program Manager".

In January 2009, he moved to SAIC Motor UK Technical Centre as "Assistant to GM SMTC UK", changing his location from Shanghai to Birmingham, UK.

In August 2011, he returned to Shanghai and transferred to SAIC Motor where he worked for 10 years and 6 months in various positions.

In published media reports, Jin last represented SAIC-GM in April 2020 when the Buick GL8 Avenir multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was launched.

Speaking to local media at the time, Jin said SAIC-GM had launched a product that met the needs of Chinese consumers based on its insights into their needs.
