Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun took to Weibo yesterday to explain why the filing for the YU7 was made so early.

“We hope the YU7's test vehicles can remove the heavy camouflage as early as possible, which will help us do more comprehensive and detailed long time mass testing to ensure product quality and make a better product,” Lei said.

In another Weibo post today, Lei said that Xiaomi is currently conducting large-scale road tests of the YU7, and reiterated that the model is expected to be officially launched in June or July next year.

The Xiaomi YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, according to yesterday's regulatory filing.

The model weighs 2,405 kilograms and supports a top speed of 253 kilometers per hour.

The Xiaomi YU7 is powered by Li-ion ternary batteries from , the capacity of which is currently unknown.

The model is powered by dual electric motors, with the front and rear motors having a peak power of 220 kW and 288 kW respectively.

There is no information on the Xiaomi YU7's price. SUVs are usually more expensive than sedans in China.
